Pulpotomy & Pulpectomy

When decay or injury reaches the nerve of a baby tooth, we can often save the tooth with a pulpotomy (removing the infected portion of the pulp) or a pulpectomy (removing the entire pulp), the pediatric equivalent of a root canal.

Why Save a Baby Tooth?

• Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth and guide healthy jaw development.
• Early loss can lead to shifting teeth and future orthodontic issues.
• Saving the tooth avoids the need for a space maintainer in many cases.

What to Expect

We use gentle local anesthesia and, when helpful, nitrous oxide or other sedation options to keep your child calm and comfortable throughout the procedure. Most kids are back to normal activities the same day.
